This RSC production opened at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon on 29 October 1992. It played in repertoire for the rest of the Stratford season and transferred to the Barbican Theatre in London, opening on 26th May 1993 and playing in repertoire until 4th September.
